First saltwater trip for the new boat! Dad and I put her in at about 6:45 at the LH with the skies looking sketchy. Got rained on a little bit on the drive down there, even though the radar showed it clear as day when I left the house. Planned on staying close in and fishing the East River entrance - partly because it's still a new boat and I'm still gettin' the bugs worked out, partly because I'm still new at this whole motor boat thing and partly because the weather looked iffy at best. Looking at charts and DOQQ images of the area, the East River looks, at least on paper, like it would hold a good bit of fish. And it didn't let us down. :) Fished some deep cuts between the bars with CT's and a variety of jig colors. Caught two keeper trout and maybe 10 shorts ( the most shorts I've caught in one trip yet.) Dad got his first trout  and hooked onto what we think was either a bluefish or a spanish. It took the CT and ran hard stripping line. He got it up next to the boat and just as we were going to net it - it took off FAST and *PING* the line snapped. All we got was a glimpse of about an 18-20" silver fish that definately wasn't a trout or a red. I think I've got him convinced that he needs to go over to braided line. Great morning on the water. Headed in around 11:45 with another line of nasty storms headed our way and rain starting to fall. We got dumped on pretty good for about 20 minutes around 8:00. I was glad to have the bilge installed - simply for the fact of removing all that rain water.

Early on - we met Birddog and crew, who recognized my boat from this message board. It was neat to meet somebody else from the board - especially out on the water. Nice boat birddog! Hope you had luck over at Wakulla Beach direction.
