Put in at the Lighthouse Sat. morning under threatening weather conditions. Motored out the channel and decided to stick close by to wait out the weather. Fished the East river without much success. Got washed off pretty good by a heavy rainstorm. Finally the rain slacked up and we headed west to Patty's Island.
Fished for while in 6 ' water in front of Patty's. Caught 1 - 16.5" trout and a few shorts. We decided the rain was gone for a while so we eased on into the Wakulla beach area. Just as we're getting to some good redfish water we notice the rain clouds really building out to the SW. We decided to head back to the lighthouse.
Just as we're crossing the river channel I ran into Tin Can. (Pun intended) I'm real sorry about my bonehead move T.C. I hope you'll let me make it right for you. Talked with Tin Can and Chalk for a while, finally deciding to call it a day.
Heading up the lighthouse canal, we decide since we're not seeing any lightning and we're already wet, to turn around and keep fishing. We spend the rest of the day working oyster bars and shorelines and grassy points up and down the East River and its tributaries hoping for redfish but catching only a few trout.
Ended up with 3 trout in the box to 24", a few short trout, and some ladyfish.
Lost 2 trout at the boat that were better than 24".
The short trout we caught were on jigs the keeper trout were on topwater and spinnerbaits.
Turned out to be a fair day on the water even with the wind and rain. Can't wait until next time.
