Washdown Pump

Post by John O »

The washdown/livewell pump has been burnt out since I got my boat. I am looking to replace it and was looking for some advice on which way to go. The built in livewell is basically useless as it is so small. I have looked at the options for the livewell systems, but don't want to take up the room of permanently installing on in the fishing area. Should I just get the pump as a washdown pump and continue to try to find a suitable livewell separately (if so any suggestions on a good pump for a good price). Thanks

I would just replace the pump....depends on how much live baiting you do and how much you wash the boat down in the water....Shurflo makes good pumps...What kind of pump is in there now?

In the process of installing a 2nd bilge pump in the old boat, I decided to remove everything, clean the oil spills mess, and rewire all the electrics. The washdown pump (Marpac 7-900) worked fine, but the motor housing is about rusted through, so it's on the list to replace.
I have shopped online and found the following catalog store which seem reasonable enough. http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/WashdownPumps.htm
I'm not sure what brand to go with, but feel that with the Marpac in such bad cosmetic shape but still running like a champ, was thinking, I might just stay with the same model (the price is right).
I have not dealt with Foreandaft Marine before, so can't vouch for them. They do have, what seems to be fair prices on a lot of stuff.
As for the bait tank aeration, I can't say about that either, since mine (tanks) are not set up for it. Another project in time, I'm sure.
Good luck with it.
