Re-Lube

Post by GoneGator »

Out of action this weekend so I thought I would clean up all the tackle, several boxes worth if your like me, some stock some take-um. Question is how do you re-lube all those jig tails? Ever notice how nice and oily they are out of the bag? Well, once separated into lots of ziplocks, how do you maintain? Also, I have always washed and dried and sprayed with WD-40 all my lures before putting back in the box, any better way? Hey Tom, check is in the mail, been somewhat out of commission with the twin arriving ;-)

Slow weekend I guess, but I'm not a regular, solution found, baby oil works great, also on advise from another board used lock tight super glue on all my worn out DOA' one brush between the rubber and the hook. Tested one, pulled the tail off before the glue released. That will save some money!

Not sure I follow you, are you talking about soft plastic jig tails.....If so I wouldn't use WD40 or Baby oil.....Try a fish attractant like YUM shrimp attractant or something like that...I add "Liquid Frenzy's" Shrimp Attractant to my bags....I think WD40 or baby oil would leave a unnatural scent trail...

Super glue is good for making them stay on the hook as you have already seen

I use plain ole menhaden oil to refresh my plastics, but like Chalk said, any fish attractant should work fine. I have heard that using menhaden oil could cause the color to darken if left exposed to sunlight but I have'nt had any problems so far.
Chalk, I think he meant he was using the WD40 on his hard baits such as top water plugs. I have seen some mention using Reel Magic on them but am not sure the best method to use. I currently employ the fresh water rinse, rehook method, so I am interested in what most of you do as well :D

Yes, WD on the hard baits, in fact I used to bass fish with an old timer that used WD40 as a fish attractant, claimed it worked great.

You can mix your own attractant too. Anis oil and mineral spirits work well. It smells like licorish (sp). It keeps the plastics nice and oily and the fish like it too.
