Econfina 6/18

Post by leonreno »

Left the ramp at about 9:00am with my Father-In-Law and headed to the flats. Fished just west of the river in 6-8ft. Nothing for about 45 minutes then I hooked into a very "nice" fish. Thought it was maybe a redfish the way it started running. Finally got it closer to the boat and realized it was a large trout. After some more fighting got it in the net. Measured 25.5" and 5lbs. The whole day was fairly slow. Did not catch many fish in the same spot or on the same bait. The large one was caught bouncing a jig of the bottom. Caught some on jigs and some on cut bait under CTs. Together we ended up with 6 keepers and two shorts. Keepers were 25.5", 20", 18", 18", 17", 15". Also caught one keeper Spanish Mackerel and a 2+' shark and a couple of black sea bass and one fish I am not sure of. Looked similar to a sheepshead but the "stripes" were broken into a few vertical blotches. About 10" in length. Also finally broke our streak of catching no catfish since we started fishing the flats three years ago. Left the water about 2:00pm due to incoming thunderstorms.

Ouch! That had to sting, Chalk. Then again you're probably getting used to it. WTG Leonreno.
