St. Marks 6/19/05

Post by birddog »

Best morning I've had at St. Marks in quite a while. A buddy and I launched from the lighthouse about 6:30 this morning. Headed east of the LH and drifted some 1.5' water in front of Big Cove. Caught 6 keeper trout by 9:00a.m. The largest was 23.5". Managed to lose another 3 keepers and released an armload of short trout. Caught all the trout on a topdog jr. and a Tsunami stick bait.

Headed back West when the topwater bite slowed. Eased up into the Wakulla Beach area looking for reds. Just about to give up on the reds when we managed to catch 3 in quick succession. All were caught on a redfish magic spinnerbait. The largest was 23.5".

Left WB and drifted along the east side of Live Oak pt. Managed to pick up another red and a few more short trout.

Drifted the deep flats south of Pattys Island until 1:30 with little success. Decided to head back to the LH and then Jerry's for a hot cuban.

Can't wait til next time.

Good job BD. I was South of Island on Sat as well. Sounds like you left before the rain came in from the West.

Thanks Sir Reel. No, Sat. I was underneath that storm while fishing offshore out of Carrabelle. Pretty hairy to saw the least.

My brother and I put out at Wakulla Beach on Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Fished Patty's Island for trout, no luck. Headed North East into the oyster bars and the RedFish were waiting on the out going tide. Had two keepers within 15mins. Caught and release several more. Even caught a nice sheephead and flounder. Was back home on the grill at 7:30pm. Not a bad Sunday afternoon.
