St. Marks 6/26/05

We put in at Shell Island around 7:30 - Jeff, Linda, and neighbor Donnie. Neither Shell Island nor Shields had any shrimp, so it was artificials all the way. We started after Reds around the oyster bars near the lighthouse, tossing gold spoons. Had one hook-up, but lost it. Then SUCCESS! Jeff finally broke his St. Marks jynx catching a 20" Red . The jynx was that we could catch Reds at Appalachicola and my brother and cousin could catch them here, but we had never gotten a keeper at St. Marks - until today!

After working the bars we moved out to the lighthouse and Donnie caught a nice flounder. We go some shorts and two baby sharks. Then we moved out to deeper water - 6-8 feet and Linda and Donnie both caught keeper trout. The bite slowed so we went to the west flats. Jeff caught a 20" trout and Donnie got another trout. It was a mixed bag - Donnie used a spinnerbait with various SWA baits, and we mostly used a variety of jigs and DOA shrimp.

Donnie mostly fishes freshwater - tournament bass fishing. This was his first saltwater trip. And it looks like it won't be his last!

Totals:

1 red
1 flounder
4 trout
a dozen or so shorts
2 small sharks

But - no Ladyfish! Linda always catches Ladyfish! Go figure. Guess they like the live shrimp.
