Has anyone seen Peter's Rock?

This area is for general discussions about fishing, rigging, baits, etc.

Has anyone seen Peter's Rock?

Post by tallarob »

Has anyone ever really seen Peter's Rock at St. Marks? I have been out there a couple of times and have found nothing but 7-10 feet of water.

Jerry's has great things to say about this area:

"This rock does not break the surface, but it comes close. The water depth here is seven feet and smaller rockpiles surround the main rock. Trout love the area."

As the water warms and the trout head to deeper water, this seems like an ideal spot. The problem is I just can't find it. I used my GPS coordinates of 30 03.223 N and 84 04.029 W, but nothing! Does anyone else have better coordinates?

I've seen it. Actually saw a fella sheer the foot off his motor on it on a super low winter tide. The numbers are fairly close.

You have to realize that "peters rock", "grey mare", "black rock" etc. while being well known actual rocks, are used more as reference points to a general area.

So while your assumption that "peters rock" is a good place to fish in the summer time is correct, you don't actually need to be on the rock. There are literally acres of rocks and sand holes and broken bottom in that area around peters in all different directions. The reason you haven't seen any of it is because the water has been stained all year.

It would curl your hair if you saw how many rocks the size of an F-150 and bigger there are within 500 yards of "peters rock".

Sorry to hear it. Did you by chance mark it on your GPS?

Had a couple of encounters this past week as well. Mine were in the rock garden. Fortunatley no damage.
