trolling motor question

Post by Eerman »

Ordered a 24 volt bow mount Minn Kota for the boat the other day. Unfortunately, won't be here for a few more days. I was wondering if you guys had any hints or suggestions for installation. Particularly, what size wire have you guys used on yours and did you guys use any circuit breaker? If so, what size circuit breaker? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Mine came wired, but it looks like a jam up job, w/ circuit breakers on each battery, onboard charger, etc. You're more than welcome to take a peek if you like. I'd hate to try to tell you any info 'cause I'd probaly get it wrong!

10 ga. is good. I recommend a tinned marine wire. I like a circuit breakers rather than fuses. I use a 40 amp circuit breaker at the battery on the hot lead. Look at your owners manual. It will tell you what size breaker. If you use fuses carry spares.

Most boats are pre wired with 6 ga. wire. Cuts down on line loss between the batteries and the trolling motor. 30 anp breakers are sufficient. As RC stated, use marine grade wire.
What was I supposed to do today?
