Sorry for the delay and the absence of pictures (should be ready tomorrow and I'll try to add them later). Lots of things going on over the holiday that kept me off the net, Visitors, Fish fry, More Visitors, Tree Trim’n, Brush Burn’n, I’m ready for the routine to settle in again!
I’ve been taken other folks out a good bit lately and my wife and I decided to go fishing for just the two of us.

We were expecting our first round of visitors that afternoon so we had decided to try to make an early day and be back home by mid afternoon. We began at Savanna’s for breakfast around 6am then on to the Light House pool. I hit a close in spot on the West side of the channel and caught a dozen pins while my wife was checking to see if any trout were in the area. One showed up but I didn’t have the net out yet and the legal fish removed himself when I tried to lift him into the boat.

After taking all the necessary steps (that I could afford) to save a marriage,

we proceeded on out further to a spot I wanted to try that was south east of the Bird Rack and water depth of 18 – 20 ft. Now I had it in my mind to put out a can of cat food and bottom fish. Keep this in mind cause it demonstrates why you need to adjust your thinking to what’s happen’n!!

The conditions were really nice and as I was enjoying the ride,

I actually ran past my intended fishing spot by probably 5 or 6 hundred yards.

I turned around to motor back and began marking some really interesting bottom along with fish. I started hit’n the MOB to mark the spots and at one point I remember telling my wife the Humming Bird (one of Tom’s favorites)

was mess’n up. I thought it was pick’n up some interference or trying to change to simulator mode cause I’d never seen anything in that area that looked like what I was seeing.

There was great bottom and a cloud from top to bottom with big fish being marked in the middle at about 7 ft. Now like I said I had my mind made up to fish this one specific spot and in a very specific way so I continued on to my original destination. We anchored and the cat food hit the water. My wife was fishing a grub on the bottom and picked up a nice Sea Bass right away. I started setting up a pin fish off the back and getting ready to fish the bottom with some squid. We fished a bit, but the action wasn’t what I thought it should be so I said let’s head back to the spots I marked on the way here. We pulled up and started towards the new numbers. When I motored over the spot, there was that silly look’n return on the bottom machine.

But now there was surface activity that told me the bottom machine was telling me the truth.

There were pods of bait troubling the surface all around us. We couldn’t see any activity that would indicate that anything was feeding on them but it looked like the water was boiling in 4 or 5 places, some within easy casting distance. I told my wife to throw her jig to the bait pods cause there were probably fish underneath them. Mean while, ole “stick to the first planâ€
