Out of Steinhatchee Offshore Run

Post by Chop Daddy »

Had an excellent day on the Gulf on July 4th. Yeah the 3-4's were a little rough in the beginning, yet the 32' Sea Cat handled very nicely. Capt B. of Big Bend Charters and the mate Lil B were great. If we weren't catching here they went there. We mainly used live pins, and sailors choice. The grunt fillets worked well also. Only had one keeper gag, yet limited out on red groupers. The highlight was when a large something nailed a pin fish under a bobber about 20 yds behind the boat at one of the stops. As I was bringing this "monster" in, my thoughts were leaning toward a large Baracuda. The flash I saw from about 35 ft away screamed cuda also. There was a 6 1/2 ft Nurse shark being released as my line started to scream up the starboard side toward the nurse shark transaction. Told em they better get it off and gone before we get into a cluster. They moved as I worked it up the side, to the front, under the anchor line and fought it on the front for a minute when we all saw "it". A nice sized King. The Captn and the mate along with everybody knew we HAD to get this thing in. he came down the port side finally exhausted and the mate Lil B gaffed him perfectly. Bam, there he was. A 30lb. 2 oz. King Mackeral. What a beauty!! Check him and all of our catch out. I'm 6'4" 260 lbs. So don't let my size throw his size off. He was a nice one. Post some pics of any other area Kings and how they compare.
THanks,
Chop Daddy

Welcome CD  :D We're glad to have anybody here who can fish and tell a story like you do. Good job :D
