Keaton July 18

Post by DixieReb »

Well, I thought the water might be clearer over Keaton way, so we tried it. WRONG!! Water's dirty there, too. Lots of floating grass, too. Makes it near impossible to fish lures and hard for corks. Windy conditions, 2-3 ft. South wind. We caught lots of bait right outside the pole line, wife threw out one and had a 20'' trout soon after. I thought, what a great start, but that was our only keeper. Got several shorts and a shark bit one of them in half. Sharks were terrible, ate up most of the bait and just bit them in half, left the rest of pin hanging there. Wife finally caught one, about a foot long. Must be thousands of them this year, didn't matter where we moved they were there. :x We tried further out to 12-13 ft. and got ladyfish, cats, small trout and mostly junk. But about the only action to be had. Quit at 2:00 very hot and tired, kept thinking about fried trout for supper and getting in the pool to cool off. And that's just what we did! :smt004 A good day off with the wife.
Yours in the South

Sounds like it's gonna take a while for the gulf to settle down.

Glad you got to spend a day with your wife.
What was I supposed to do today?

DixieReb didn't mention all of the Scallopers that obviously did not see what we were up against in that same body of water. We must have lost 20 or more pins to baby sharks. :smt013 . Buth those little guys were real smart, the bite stopped just short of the hook.
I told the store keeper at the Marina and he said "Those things wont bother you!!". Well tell that the the girls family that died and the boy that lost his leg just recently. Big or small it's their turf and you enter on their terms. :smt100 That is why man invented the BOAT. :smt038
I'd rather have a bad day on the water than a good day at work!!

So called experts say there are no more sharks than ever. I don't believe that for a minute, you can't fish inshore for the dang thangs. There's almost as many of them as scallopers :P .
