West bay, PC

Post by MstrBaiter »

Any of you guys been fishing in the w. bay area? A buddy of mine hit it this weekend and said that they caught 50+ trout, and multiple reds with the largest going around 5 lbs. on saturday.

Anyone been trying it over there, and if you have, have you had luck like this. Me and another friend of mine have been trying to get our weekends straight and plan a trip back to pc soon. Between him getting his son every other weekend, and me hitting the tournies we can't get on the same track :( Not this weekend but next, I think there's a possibility....

I hear some good trout were caught over at Lake Powell and East Bay...I have not heard much from the west side...Too close to the water fleas and rental boats for much fishing....

I fished St. Andrews Bay and East Bay on the 19th. St. Andrews Bay was producing LOTS of small trout but few keepers. We mainly fished the flats to the west of the old pier on Shell Island and Red Fish Point back along the shoreline of the golf Course on Tyndal.

The water clarity was excellent on SAB, but tanic on East Bay. I would bet there would be plenty of tannin water on West Bay too because of the flow through the Intracoastal Waterway. Regardless of the darker water on East Bay that's where we caught the majority of our trout (67) and our keepers. Glo bodied lures worked best. We free-lined 1/4 oz DOA's, and also used Cajun Thunder's with 18-24" leaders.

I had friends that fished West Bay over the weekend and they reported good cathes of trout, and several reds in very shallow water.

Catchin,' one day last week we went in there and between 0730 and 1230, we caught 103 trout. (4 keepers). That can be a productive area when the winds and tides are right.
