Wacissa River 7/24 and 8/8

Post by dave7 »

It was past time for a little bit of freshwater fun. I've been down to the coast a lot lately and with the water down there all screwed up, I know I'm not missing anything. Stopped by the house on the way to the river and asked if I could borrow Dad's fly rod. :D This was my first time fishing with one of those.

Ended up with three bream :D Not nearly the haul I can take with the spinning gear and a topwater lure, but boy was it fun.

Used a pole to move the boat along the edge of the river looking for spots. Spotted this neat little birds nest in a fallen tree at the edge of the river.

On the flip-side: I've never seen so many people on the river before. It was crazy. Dadgum jetskis and airboats = RIVERTRASH.

Good to be back in clear, fresh water though!

UPDATE:

Worked over the weekend and got Monday off. Headed back down the Wacissa with only one other boat trailer in the parkinglot. Fished until 2 with thunderstorms all around. Only fished with the flyrod and picked up seven bream and one small bass.

I hate to hear about the air boats and jet skis. Many years ago we spent a lot of time on the Wacissa. There would be an occasional air boat. But most boats were 14' Kennedy Craft with 20 HP mercs. It's been many years since I've been on the Wacissa. Guess those days are gone.
What was I supposed to do today?

I bought it used a few months ago. So far so good - it's been a good first boat for me. Got a 30hp Johnson on the back - I wouldn't want anything less behind me...However, it seems like a good match for the boat. With just two folks in it, she'll skoot. I looked at a 16' SeaArk that had a 25hp, and I'm really glad I didn't get it - I don't think it would have much 'go' in it.
