Prop ?

I know pitch and everything else has been beat to death....but I can't find much on Diameter change....

I have a 14.5x17 Aluminum POS prop.....father ran it through oyster bed

I want to replace with a Stiletto stainless...problem is they only offer a 14.25x17.
I'm was completely happy with the performance of the old prop (pre-oyster bed), RPM's right around 5400 WOT.....hole shot, top end...

What difference will it make in performance by dropping .25 inches in diameter??

Theoretically it would increase RPM's very slightly, but since you are going from one prop manufacturer to another the only way to really tell is to try it.

When going from an aluminum to stainless, you would usually drop 2" in pitch. This is because the stainless props are cupped, and don't flex nearly as much as the aluminum. Dropping .25" in diameter is going to help keep your RPM up. You'll still probably lose 150 RPM going to the stainless. The Stainless is going to give you more lift, both bow and transom. The boat should preform better.

Look at the Turbo prop. Stiletto and Turbo are the same prop. The difference is Turbo has an exchange policy. If you deteremine the pitch is incorrect, you can exchange a Turbo, for a nominal fee ($30 or $40, I think). If you buy the Stiletto, and it's the wrong pitch, it's yours.

What ding dong said with the exception of the Stiletto...If you buy it from Overton's they have a return policy...as long as you don't mess up the prop and pay for the return shipping, they will play prop swap with you...last I checked they would, anyway

TC, you're saying I should probably start with a 14.25x15 (stainless) to match the RPM's I'm seeing with the 14.5x17 aluminum?

Probably. What boat are you running? What motor are you running? How is it set up on the boat?

You should probably take the time (very time consuming) to get everything set up right. So, you might be playing the setup game, as well as the prop swap game.

Stiletto and Turbo are made by Precission Propeller, Inc. Precision Propeller will play the prop swap game with a Turbo. They will not with a Stiletto. That's straight from the Precision Propeller, Inc. rep.

I said Overton's not Precision Propeller, ding dong....Overton's has a customer satisfaction (return policy) and I personally know a person that has sent back several Stiletto's until he got the performance he wanted.....

Boat is a 21' Logic center console, t-top, 150 (carb) 2-stroke Yamaha,
boat is very light. Motor is one notch from being all the way down.....have to do that on these boats to keep the prop in the water.

A friend of a friend is going to let me borrow a 14.25x17 stainless to try!! Hopefully get to test this weekend....I'll let yall know what happens..........

The Skinny!
Orig prop was 14.5x17 alum

New Prop 14.25x17 stilletto stainless.
Test conditions: (Boat) 3 folks, half tank of fuel, 120 quart cooler(beer), moderate tackle.
(water) Lake Hartwell, very light wind, 90 degrees air, 80 degrees water, humidity 175%!!

Hole Shot:

, didn't time it...but faster than the old prop.
Cruise: 4K rpm @ 28 knots
WOT: 5500 rpm @ 36.5 knots

I'm happy!!
