Leader knot question

Post by sundown »

I’ve seen some references on here to using 80 # test leader ….Last night I bought a spool at Bass Pro…
I got home and tried tieing up a couple leaders with it and find I can’t tie a decent uniknot or palamar knot with it….I have some crimps but hate to use them if I don’t have to…How do some of you that use this size tie it up ?

I just tie a loop and hook it in a large snap swivel. to tie on the hook, if a loop of the line will fit through the eye I use a palomar, if not I tie half a uni knot and cinch it down with pliers. wet it first. Sometimes I make some up with crimps but you have to check them often. They don't last forever.

Try using only 3 or 4 twists ( most people try putting 8 or 9 like they are bass fishing )with a Bimni twist, and when your finished with the extra line coming up turn it down and run it through the bottom loop above the hook eye, wet & pull tight. This may be hard to understand..its an awesome knot, we tie 100# all the time, never have knot trouble. frank

I am fairly sure what Frank is talking about is a improved clinch knot. Seen here:

Improved clinch with 3 or 4 wraps to swivel. Snell to hook.
