Carrabelle in late December

Post by jumper »

I will have my boat in Carrabelle Dec. 28 through Jan. 3 and need some info on what too fish for and some general areas to fish. My boat is a Wellcraft 270 Coastal and going offshore is not a issue. I will have three kids with me 5 - 7 years old. Catching more fish is more important than big fish, but I would like to bring some fish back to Colorado with us.

Thanks for any help in advance. Also where would you recommend I keep my boat in Carrabelle?

Thanks

I would try near the towers and also the ledges off of the east end of Dog Island. Do you have Loran or just GPS???? Will try to help you out.

LL thanks for responding. I only have GPS on the boat. It is (or will be) a Garmin 2006C. I think it can translate Loran, but I think the accuracy suffers badly.

Thanks

Also, what is the best way to fish the towers? I have never seen them. Do you tie off too them or anchor or drift? Should I catch my bait there or somewhere on the way out?

One last question what is LY? I know I should know that, but I dont.

Thanks

Hey Jumper.

I have not been to the towers, but have heard that you only need to be a couple hundred yards away from them to find fish. An LY is a pogie, big bait fish. You can get them frozen at C-Quarters Marina, and probably elsewhere, but not sure.

DS - Thanks for the input on the towers. I assume that you anchor up and chum.

As far as LY where did they get LY from Pogie? Oh well at least I know what kind of bait to use now.

Thanks again.

Jumper,
It's best to anchor close to the towers. Although, there is structure out from and around the "O" tower that I know of. Grab you one of those free regulation advertisement flyer things from the local bait store, and there should be a good number of public GPS numbers in that. There are several that are within 10 miles of the St. George and Dog Island cut.
Good luck!!!!

Probably not a bad idea to troll some Stetch's on the way out toward the towers or wherever you're heading and look for structure/fish on your bottom machine while you're trolling. If you spot structure/fish, anchor up and bottom fish with the LY's. Best bet though is to talk ol' Liveline into giving you the numbers for one of his special honey holes. :D

You know I have heard nothing but great things about Liveline. He is supposed to be a very giving individual. Maybe I can talk him out of at least one spot. Or a good area to troll in.

What do ya say Liveline? Think of the children.

Jumper, Liveline will be glad to give you numbers to a spot or two. But, you gotta get him drunk and spend a cozy evening by the fire with him to get those numbers.
What was I supposed to do today?

Now that is a tough way to get numbers. :o I dont think I like to fish that much.

No Cranfield I dont think you know me. I am from Florida I just happen to live in Colorado now. Originally from Brooksville FL. Try and get down to fish as much as possible.

Jumper, my cryptic comment, has lead to a misunderstanding. :-?

You were being so complimentary about Liveline, that I had to respond "can,t be the same bloke we know".

Being a furriner myself, I am always being misunderstood.

Yep total misunderstanding. Now I guess I need to know more about Liveline. :D

I do believe that Liveline has disappeared for a couple of days.
