Motor issue, won't crank

Post by finniefish »

Below are the symptoms from being stranded yesterday.

Battery has a full charge, when I turn the key the starter drive gear pops up to the flywheel but its like it does not have enough torque to turn the fly wheel.

Anyone ever deal with this? a
Any ideas comments on anything to test or try?
Need new starter?

Would like to try what I can before I take it somewhere.

Can you turn the flyweel by hand? Or, is the motor too stiff to turn?
What was I supposed to do today?

Take the plugs out and see if it turns over. May be seized up.

Try the turn by hand with the plugs out. May be the starter is too weak to turn the motor over.

Check all the electrical connections for loose or corroded connections.

Did you load test the battery.

I can turn it with the starter rope but I just cant get enough behind it to turn it all the way. I am asuming the starter but won't know till I take it somewhere.

Battery may show full charge, but did you check/clean all connections, It can as simple as corrosion, or starter, try cleaning first.

All the connection where clean, newer battery with full charge. Ran along all the wiring and everything seems to have a good connection. The starter is supposed to be easy to remove, 3 bolts, but of course one of the bolts is where you can not get to it. I wanted to pull it and take it to Jones to have it tested

Took it to Porters yesterday, not the starter but a wiring issue. He is taken care of that and installing a second battery and switch for me. Gonna have to use the Gheenoo this weekend
