Keaton 8/13

Post by dstockwell »

Well checking the tide times showed the high @ around 7:15 this mornin with a low around 1515. Well there is no way I am going to get to Keaton early enough to try and fish high tide so we decided to make a later start. The son, myself, and brimbuster left the ramp around 8ish for an offshore day. Not even before we made it to the end of the canal we heard the ever present sound we were not looking for, thunder boomers. :x Motored to 5ft outside of the markers to catch bait and see what this storm off in the distance is going to do. Storm is tracking NE, give the marina a call and the radar shows offshore good, so we finish the bait catching and head on or way.

Offshore bite was tuff to say the least. We hit a spot get a few bites maybe catch a fish or two and it shut off. This was case almost everywhere we stopped. One of the darndest things, Brandon, and Brimbuster are on port side and almost every drop BB is getting a hit or catching a grunt, while Brandon stands in disbelief that he is getting nothing, and they are using the same bait.

After a tuff outing with only 1 Red Grouper and about a dozen grunts it was time to try our luck at the Crane and see if we could stir up some AJ's. Only one boat there and they say only Cudas on the reef. We anchor up, have a couple bottom rigs and Brandon puts out a flatline with a pinfish. 15 minutes into it and the flatline is screaming -----

11 pounds, but at least was some excitement for the day, and shortly after BB hooks a cuda, and again the bite stops... OK, we are done lets go in clean what we got and head to the house.

Total
1 Red Grouper, about 1/2 doz shorts
1 King
about a dozen grunts.
