St Marks 8/20

Post by dave7 »

My brother has been out of town all summer and hadn't been out in the boat and this was his last chance to go out in it before he heads off to school. He, dad and I put in at the LH at around 7:00 am and headed East to some good looking water. I hadn't been out there in almost a month and the water clarity is getting better since the storm. The trout were biting better than I expected - considering the bathtub water temperature.

Daniel ended up with his first trout and about six other trout by the time we headed in.

He also ended up with the only keeper size trout of the day, a nice 16"er and his first shark.

We fished in that area until around 9:30 before trying to hit some bars around the East River looking for Reds.

We fished several several promising looking bars in the East River and the mouth of the St Marks. We were about to move back to the flats when I hooked up with the only red of the day.

He turned out to be a nice 20"er. I still haven't figured out this redfish game yet - every time I get one it seems like just plain luck.

After my red, we tried some more in the East River before heading back to the flats for a few more trout before heading in at 12:30.

Totals for the morning:
Lots of short trout for each of us.
One 1.5' shark
One ladyfish
One 20" Red

Used CT's with several differnent jigs and DOA shrimp. Redfish caught on a white Redfish Magic.

Enjoyed the read dave7  Sounds like you covered most all of the bases.

And the problem with "luck" would be WHAT!! :-D
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
