Took the new boat on the first fishing trip. The weather was actually nice not as hot as I was anticipating. We fished the grass just east of the light house early in 3-5' and caught a bunch of shorts. Headed over due south of the rock garden and found the same. We quit counting at 30 but all the trout we found were 13 and 14". Also caught 4 small sharks that I swear could've passed for the same shark. I hooked into something with shoulders but the hook pulled. Probably a stingray but since I didn't get it to the boat is was a redfish. Water temp was 84-85' depending on depth. Finished around noon looking for reds on the bars at the mouth of the river. The picture below is one of the shorts but that fish has the dubious distinction of being the first caught in the recently finished boat.
Saw Dave 7 at the ramp. It was good to meet someone from the forum.
Looks like next week Katrina might come stir things up a bit, so I'm hoping to get out again on Friday.
