Conditions Report

Post by Charles »

Not really a fishing report, I just took a ride down to Live Oak Island to check on things.

The wind is BLOWIN' out of the south. Rough with big white-caps all over the bay. Got the water pushed up above normal high tide level at 10 and it's not high today until around noon. The water didn't come over the island yesterday, I really thought it would, as high as it was Sunday.

Dead fish all the way down the shoreline. Batfish, cowfish, puffers, searobins, lizardfish, etc. Wonder if the storm killed them or if it's something in the water that the storm might have pushed in. Didn't see any bigger fish, trout, reds, catfish, etc. Did see a few small flounder washed up.

On the upside, I think that's the first time I've been down there this summer and not been mosquito and dogfly food.

Hopefully it's not red tide that is responsible for the dead baitfish. I've heard several reports of it down to the South of us. Last I heard it has made it as far North as Steinhatchee.

That's what I'm concerned about. I've heard reports of redtide down that way too, and the way the wind has been the last few days Steinhatchee is not really all that far away.
