Hit the water at about 7 this morning on one of those spur of the moment trips. Ended up being a good day. Started off with a rat red on a skitterwalk about a half hour in. About half hour later, landed a nice 23" red on the same skitterwalk. Lots of baitfish and activity and no sign of dead fish. Saw some major explosions in the back of the bay that I could not get too. Whatever caused it, was a large school because the eruption was about 50 feet wide. I thought porpoise at first; but, never saw any sign of them. I wanted to get out of the boat and wade over; but, it was a little far. Switched over to the spinnerbait that everyone is fond of. Landed a nice little flounder. Moved over to a spot that I had never tried before. Still throwing the spinnerbait, hooked into a nice 28" red (my biggest so far). Weighed in a little over 8lbs. Lots a fun. It's hard to land those suckers when you're by yourself and wedged between a couple of oyster bars. Makes life more exciting. Got the fish in the boat; but, my poor spinnerbait was little worse for wear. I think it will need retired. Good day and was in by noon.
Them spinner baits don't last long on bigger fish do they? They get pricey if'n you go through a bunch of them in one trip, but it sure is a fun way to spend money!
