Chalk and I launched from the lighthouse a little after daylight Friday morning to try to locate some good trout for Saturday's NFGFC tournament. A good breeze was blowing at the ramp and we met a good chop as we rounded the bouy in the river channel. Fought our way out near the SM birdrack and fished pts. east and west. 1st couple of drifts produced 3 solid keepers and a few shorts and a multitude of ladyfish.

After 3 or 4 drifts, we moved east fishing mostly 6'-8' water and picked up a few more shorts and more ladyfish. Chalk managed to boat a couple of nice spanish out on the deeper flats.

We moved into shallower water, working our way to the east, picking up a short here or there, but struggling to find any decent trout. Later in the day the wind laid and it got plenty hot. The biting flies decended upon us and feasted on our legs. We met up with Reel Slow and partner, they had caught some nice topwater trout until mid-morning and were finding a pretty good redfish bite through the middle of the day.

As the tide turned and began to fall out we found plenty of short trout on grubs on topwater in the shallow flats. We eased our way up into some redfish water and quickly boat 4 nice redfish. 1 on topwater and 3 on a goldspoon. By this time the tide was really moving. We headed into a nice creek mouth, anchoring along the way to hold us in the current. We boated 4-5 solid trout working our way up the creek fishing grubs and topwater baits.

The water was getting plenty shallow and still falling out hard, so we headed to the ramp. Back on the trailer a little after 6:00 p.m. It was a good mixed bag day with a good fishing partner. Chalk let's do it again real soon. Can't wait unitl next time.

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

Don't take anything that doesn't have lots of DEET in it. Anything else just seems to attract them.
