Steinhatchee Offshore. Saturday, 10-01 05

Post by Big Bend Brian »

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been out grouper fishing.

Bernie Fowler & I arrived at Sea Hag at 6 a.m. and loaded the Bare Necessities with gear. We were entered in the GOFC Fall Tournament and our plan was to catch a few grouper and then target kingfish.

Running Out

About 6:30 we ran out to pick up a welk trap, er, I mean a pinfish trap that two friends had placed out there for us the night before (Lat/Long: 29°39.978/083°26.746).
Upon pickup it had 7 nice fat welks attached/in the trap but NO pinfish (they later told us they had approximately 150 pinfish in theirs, which wasn’t too far from the one they set for us).

Some fat small welks
(trap soon to be For Sale as this trap design doesn’t seem do well in the pinfish catching department)

We then stopped at a couple of places for pinfish but we only picked up three. Chomping at the bit to get out and feel that addicting “tugâ€

nice catch

it's funny what you said about the pictures because at first glance I was thinking it doesn't look that bad, but if you go back and take a longer look the swells become more apparant
