Finished up with work late this morning and decided to take a friend up on sneaking away to do a little fishing. We decided that Aucilla was the closest place, so off we went. I hadn't fished the Aucilla in quite some time, so it was a good feeling to get back down there. The forecast had called for 15-20 kt. winds with 3-4 ft. seas with thunderstorms, but that didn't really bother us because the forecast is hardly ever even close to accurate when we go anyhow :roll: We got down there at LOW tide around 11:30 and threw the cast net looking for some live bait. None was to be found, so we headed on out to some "old redfish holes" to try our luck.

The forecast called for "not so favorable" weather, but this is what we were greeted with...they were wrong again :lol:

We eased up into our first spot and found quite a few reds busting the shoreline....the first two casts got me two nice bumps, but no takers. The third cast got me this 23" beauty.......

We started started alternating between big trout and reds for the next 1 1/2 hours without ever switching baits.......we did manage the occasional 16" trout and a few short reds just to add a little variety :thumbup: :thumbup:

When the tide changed, we decided to head on out to the flats and try a little deeper water. Right as we stopped we caught a pair of nice 18" and 21" trout......even managed a few small reds within the first 10 minutes. Got broke off by "something" huge (looked like a big red by the swell) and really wished we would have had some live bait because the water was just alive with fish.

We decided to call it a day and headed on back in around 2:30, but not before stopping off at another favorite spot in the river to play around with these little boogers.....

Saw alot of gators today and man was it a good feeling to get back on such a beautiful river on such a nice day........glad we didn't listen to the weatherman :lol: ........

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

Nice pictures, and I love those "rough conditions" the best. How else can you test the sea-worthiness of your craft? Did you bump into any of those famous lower unit eating rocks in those rough conditions?

didn't hit any rocks this trip.....saw plenty of them though. I forgot how humbling that river can be a low tide, but it is worth the risk when you have the kind of day we had!
