Idecided to but rather than build

Post by mitchellmichaelh »

I was planning to build a Mill Creek but after reading I decided to buy instead. After many weeks of asking questions and reading reviews I decided on a Drifter by Ocean Kayak.

The only detriment I read was that it was sort of wet. Ok I says to meself , Its supposed to be rated for around 400 pounds, I weigh 239 hey how how wet can it be? ANSWER: VERY Very wet. So wet I have started calling it WB ..."Wet Butt". Lets just say its time to stop up the scupper holes. I guess I weigh enough to put the tops of the holes below water so in like a geyser it came. I really dont see the need for the holes since I fished out of a Folbot with two of us aboard a lot and even after a rainstorm there was hardly any water in the boat. So I will stopper mine. Other wise the boat was easy to load and unload. It is an easy paddle but will get longer paddles. I took it fishing on Lake Talquin today for its maiden. Basically I wanted to see where to put rod holders and see how she went. Paddled from the second county landing on the Quincy side , went half way to the dam and paddled back against the wind. I got tired but hey I am old and fat. 4 hours round trip stopping at likely looking places to fish about 10 minutes each place. No fish saw lots of neat birds and an alligator up close.

I like the boat !! Going to get my butt wet at the coast tomorrow.
