Holy Mackeral!!!

Post by Dr. Jones »

Hi Everyone,

My little cousin was in town Sunday and we headed out from the lighthouse around 7:30. After messing around with a flooded engine (oops) we ran over towards the Rock Garden. The trout were on and hitting everything we threw at them - topwater, doas, shrimp under c/t, spinners. We easily both had our limits within a couple hours. The wind was moving us south pretty quickly and we were about to move to the east flats when I noticed mackerals jumping everywhere. We stopped, threw some shrimp in the water to lure them and then immediately hooked into several - one right after another. I ended up with a 25" er (at the fork!) in the cooler caught, of all things, on a muskie lure from up north. When I then caught a 27" shark I decided it was time to go home.

What fun!!!!

You know it's a good day when the 'MAN' who writes you a ticket for not having your vessel registration in the boat (oops) is impressed by the size of the spanish in your box.

I mistyped. Not a ticket, a warning. He was cool about it. Fortunately everything else was in order and I had renewed the tag, just forgot it at home.

Dr. J, I was out there on Sunday as well with a late start. I had my nonfishing wife and two fishing daughters with me. We caught a bunch of shorts and one 24" Spanish. We stayed mostly in 3-4' SSE of Big Cove.

I would have posted the report, but I am feeling lazy lately.

DB:

Were you sitting at the dock at low tide around 1 PM? There was a boat sitting there with two little girls on it when I was trying to get out.

Dr. J, Not I. We put in at the fort about 0930 and got out about 1530. Much to my surprise we were about #8 to put in at that time in the morning. It was HOT!
