Live Oak Island Conditions Report 10/12

Post by Charles »

Heavy overcast, foggy and cool with light wind out of the north. Later on the fog lifted, but it stayed overcast and breezy until around 1:30. One of those mornings that make you think about putting on a long-sleeved shirt, but not cool enough to make you actually do it.

Several times while I was working I saw fish striking easily in range casting from shore.

Around 1:30 the cloud cover started breaking up. After 2 the breeze died down and made the bay slick calm all the way from Live Oak Island to Patty's Island.

For the last 2 days I've been seeing fish all over the flats as the tide's falling. Most are mullet, but some are single fish that push up a fair size wave in shallow water. I'm thinking, maybe, reds, but could be rays. By the number of fish I'm seeing there's no sign at all of red tide.

A little before 4 this afternoon a big flight of white pelicans flew over in several V formations heading north-west. Somebody needs to call Wildlife Alert and let them know their going the wrong way.

Maybe they were headed to Spring Creek Resturant for dinner.
What was I supposed to do today?
