Went to Aucilla yesterday, Oct 14th. Low tide at daylite. No big problem launching cause it was a 1.2 low. Went to river mouth and tried the first fishing. Nothing. Went to ditch, nothing. Water temp 72.4...slightly stained. Went on to the rock garden...already 5 boats there...from St Marks. Got the first fish about 9 a.m.....a red at 15 in on topwater. Went on to get 4 keeper trout and many shorts till about noon...on candycorn and topwater redfins. Water temp got up to 74.2 and clear.
DEcided to go to one of our favorite spots about noon and got this very nice red @ 7 lbs. Had some jacks in with him and got 1 @ 4lbs. Nice but no cigar. Got 4 more keeper trout for a total of 8 trout and 3 reds...with 1 keeper.
Quit about 1430 and came into the landing to the worst plague of mosquitoes I'ever seen....millions....all trying to eat us alive. Couldn't hardly retreive the boat....all over us....buzzing and eating....awful.
These 2 talked me into skipping work to go along. I managed to catch the 2 biggest trout and had a nice fight with a Jack while DixieReb played around trying to get his lure out of the net after his monster red. fisherman99's advice "just play with that Jack for a while, the net is tied up, Have fun"
Had a good time anyway. Next time I want a BigRed
