It didn't take long for my 11 year-old to convince me that we needed to spend the day fishing. We went and picked up one of his friends, and headed for St. Marks around 10:00(since it is the closest). We put in at the fort and headed out west of the lighthouse towards Shell Point. We went way inshore (2 ft.) and started a drift. We started catching small trout (13-15") on shrimp and jigs. We managed one keeper and decided to try it again.
We made the same drift again and managed one keeper again with lots of shorts. Lost a few nice fish too due to breakoffs and youthful inexperience
About 2:00 we decided to move to a spot over on the east flats. We started a drift in 2 ft. again and this time I went to topwater. The boys stayed with shrimp and CT's just content to catch small trout, small sharks and lots of pinfish......
I started getting alot of action on the topwater and boated a nice 19" trout.....missed all the others
There's nothing like watching a big trout roll after a topwater plug in shallow water 
I caught 6 trout on the first drift (using only topwater) and decided to make one more drift when the bite slowed after we reached 4 ft. 
We only managed shorts on the second drift, but the bite was consistent. We were also entertained by a porpoise feeding on baitfish within 100 ft. of the boat!! I also got to witness one of the biggest cobia I have ever seen on the flats.....it had to be 4+ ft. long and just came cruising right by the boat in 2 ft. of water.
We (I) decided to call it a day around 4:30 and we headed back in.
It was another beautiful day on the water and the fish bit consistently all day long. Not alot of big fish, but big enough to entertain the kids and make them appreciate having the day "off."
