Spring Creek 10.16.05

Post by Fighting Conch »

My sister-in-law from Naples has been visiting on Sunday we headed for the water. It was cool and breezy early but quickly the sky was brilliant from the rising sun and the air calmed. The tide was really low on the way out - a bigger boat would have real problems getting through the pinch-point in the channel. We worked the oyster bays, out to the flats, over to Panacea area, back to Oyster Bay, and then the ramp via the back-way.

We did not do great with the fish but did land trout, founder and various junk fish, but nothing quite good enough to bring home. On the other hand my buddy, eat-mo, was also out and cleaned up on the trout. We tried to not pay attention and but periodic whooping noises from the other boat were a distraction.

But the sight-seeing was fantastic. We saw countless blue crabs working the shore, bonnethead sharks cruising the shallows and lots of pelicans. It was a very good day.

Hey now, there was only the occassional hoot when I caught another keeper. Ended up with a nice limit of specks to fry up last night. My relocated family (from New Orleans) gives high marks to our north Florida fish. My father still cannot get over our limits, though.

Ol' Skag is out at St. Marks today trying to find a redfish. Judging from where I saw him on Sunday and the way he said he was heading back to the ramp on high tide, that is his track.

Just saw your question - I have been learning how to download waypoints, tracks and routes from my Garmin 72 to Google Earth Plus and save the file as a jpeg. The Google resolution is better for some places than others.
