St. Mark's 10-27/28/29

Post by Ron Wilson »

Tough 2-1/2 days fishing!

10/27: Fished all day in the flats between LH and Rock Pile. Managed a couple short trout. Threw everything in my tackle box (DOA, various grubs under CT, top water, live shrimp, spinner baits with gold blade, pinfish, etc..).

10/28: Fished (same bait) in E. River majority of day (from 0830-1400). Managed a couple shorts. In the afternoon, I tried a couple other creeks and oyster beds in/around St. Mark's.....nothing!

10/29: Fished 0830-1130 around a couple oyster beds just outside of E. River, and only managed a couple short trout.

Lessons Learned (LL):
- My boat is not optimal for productive fishing in creeks/rivers (not sure why I went with something other than flats boat).
- Need to spend more time learning creeks/rivers in this area (this ain't the Indian River I grew up on).
- Fishing partner would have been good, to share my pain :-D !

I still had a good time. I managed to avoid hitting, all but one (drifted right on top of) shallow areas, oyster beds, or rocks (despite first LL listed above). Weather wasn't too bad in a.m., with appropriate attire, and terrific in late morning/afternoon. I'm hitting the rack and will be sitting in the deer stand about 1/2 hour prior to day break. Back to work Monday!
