Econfina Eagle

Post by PinFishKing »

For years I have heard stories about the Econfina Eagle. You can see it's nest from the river. I have caught glimpses of it (I think) but was never really sure. All that changed Saturday while trout fishing with Frank B. See the picture below. The Eagle picked up a fish close to shore, flew to a shoal and proceeded to consume the fish. It is hard to tell from the picture how big this bird was. It had a wingspan of approximately 6 to 8 feet.

AWESOME RARE SIGHT!

Cool. We've seen the nest but never the bird.

Saw 4 of them flyingtogether back in March.

Also they nest in the big dead tree on the river at Aucilla.

WOW -great shot-
Last year down on St' George in the Youth Campground we watched a eagle take a fish away from a Sea hawk. There was to "fight", the smaller sea hawk simply let go of the fish mid-air and the eagle caught it mid-air, maybe 20 inches below the sea hawk. We all just looked at each other amazed to have witnessed such a display.

A very large eagle landed in a tree alongside river on last bend
before marsh two weeks ago. I had camera out and had been
taking pics of gators. I just knew I'd be able to get a good
photo of him but when I got within about 500 yards he flew away.
I snapped several pics of him but only got a blur. Awesome
sight for sure!
