I gave myself the sterns auto-inflate for Christmas. Takes a little getting used to. May try the fanny pack.
Unfortunately I fish alone a lot. Friends and family have too many other obligations. One of my greatest fears is falling overboard and watching the boat slowly trolling away.
I got the inflatable to use when I fish alone and since I want someone to know where I am and that I'm in trouble I also got the ACR personal locater beacon with gps. I have it strapped to the PFD in the accessory pocket.
Hope I never need it but it does give me a little peace of mind.
I spend a fair bit of time in a boat at work and we have two different sets of PFDs. The inflatables are really nice in the summer - but it's important to note, that they are not considered legal PFDs unless you are wearing them. The Type III jackets are legal even if you are not wearing them. If it's cold, they're pretty good insulators... I personally only own one type, a Lotus designs Rio Grande, and have been very happy with it. We should all wear them if we're fishing alone.
