I took my friend Miguel with me. It was his fist fishing trip since he came to the US. Since he mostly spoke Spanish, he taught me that the word for “red fishâ€

Glad ya got into the fish, MJ. You're a better man than I to have poled that far. From the directions you gave, I know about right where you were.

Thanks Guys-

I learned a few neat things about the Aucillia:

1- The river is full of rocks and not for the weak at heart, or anyone with a large boat that drafts more than 8".

2- Take a 5$ bill with you to pay the ramp fee. All I had was a $20 and no one in line had enough change. (BTW is that $5 fee new) :smt017

3- If you launch on a negative low tide, take a good push pole Image, and a fishing partner to keep watch for shallow rocks and oyster bars. (get your upper body in shape)

4- If your going down stream, keep the boat pointed down stream.

5- On the way back to the ramp, follow the boat in front of you. Go about 1/3rd of his speed and keep your lower unit trimmed up.

The honor box has been at the Aucilla ramp for over a year. On most weekend days there is a lady there to collect the launch fee personally.

My understanding is the ramp area is in the management area, but under lease. Does anyone know the story behind the ramp area?

Just ask JR. He'll give you the Low-Down, in very colorful terms. :smt082

Yeah it was there for a while, and I'm acquainted with the lady that would collect fees, but I thought they stopped doing it at some time last year.

The ramp fee caught me off guard. I have an annual pass for the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, and I've never paid to use the ramp at the lighthouse....

Like TC says...
