Post by Will_Fish_4_Food »

I have company coming in for new year's and was hoping to put them on a trout or red. Are they as hard to find as I keep reading?

Any suggestions?

From all reports, they are tough to find, and this rain today won't help the situation. If was going to go anywhere it would be the Econfina.

In the past 12 days we have fished St. Marks River, Econfina River,Wakulla River,Carrabelle River and all the associated surrounding flats and creeks. We have averaged one fish per trip. We have also fished deep for trout. Our keeper fish have been 3 trout,3 reds, 3 sheepshead. We have no idea where the fish are.
If anyone finds them please let us know.

My dad left Christmas afternoon for Econfina and was gonna stay until this coming Sunday. He came home yesterday afternoon. He fished Econfina, Aucilla, the flats in front of Hickory Mound, Rock Island and Fenholloway. Not a keeper fish did he put in the boat. He's tired, sick, and disgusted. Understandable. One man caught a limit in the econfina on Friday and returned Saturday to do the same. We fished near him Saturday. He was throwing a white with pink tail grub and would just ease it across the bottom, very slowly. I wore three grubs out trying his method. No luck. Musta been on a hole and did things just the way the trout wanted him to. So maybe they're in there and just not biting. I dunno. Good luck with your trip.

Oh and I'll tell you where he was set up. When you get to the last curve to the left, right before you curve right and see the tripod......................STOP!! Turn around and hug the bank as close as you can and when you can't see the tripod or the bar running from the grass out to the tripod, shut her down and anchor. The boat will be in 3.5 -4.8 ft. depending on tide. Fish the channel. Worked for him. :-?

Trout Fisher,
The place you are talking about in the Econfina is where we caught the sheepshead.

Yep, and they aint there either :( A few small "14-16" Reds but not the first Trout :-? My nephew is working over around Keaton Beach and says that they are limiting out on Trout every day over there :o
