Keaton to Rock Island, Saturday-1/21/06

Post by manley »

Hit the public landing to heavy fog about 7:30 this morning. Water temp in the channel 58*. No breeze at all, and the sun rising very nicely to a mix of clouds. Flipped around in the channel to fish right off Keaton, hit the flats 2.5-4' of water... went north to Dekle to join a few other boats, 3-5 feet of water... went north to Adams to join a few other boats... decided to head to Spring Warrior to join a few other boats... headed to Rock Island vicinity to fish the bars... back to Eagle creek... back to Spring Warrior... back to Yates Creek area... back to Dekle... back to Keaton. Water temp ranged from a low of 58 to a high of 65, and the air from about 60-75.

We fished 18" to 7' of water on the flats and creek mouths, and never had a strike. (There was not enough water to get into the creeks, but we fished all around the mouths.) Saw one school of fish-about 75 Stockwells had schooled up, and several scattered puffers and a ton of porpoises. Never saw another boat land a fish, and the only boat we saw at the ramp had the same kind of day. Those we saw at their homes on the way in were cleaning their boats but no fish. Headed to the hill about 3:00, and got home around 5:00.

Covered lots of new water, didn't break anything, but had a GLORIOUS day on the water with a new fishing buddy, Allen. I don't know that the good Lord could have given me any more beautiful day, so a fish would have been a bonus.

Adams, Dekle, Yates Creek and Spring Warrior are some of my favorite places to fish. Glad you got a chance to go.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like the couple of times, I've been lately. Good to get out there- fish or no fish.
