Prospects for upcoming weekend (Jan 18-20)

Post by Chipola »

With Uncle NOAA predicting 4-6 footers near shore and 6-8 footers 20-miles out for next Saturday, what are the good bets for fishing around the Apalach area this upcoming weekend?

Today
North wind 10 to 15 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet. Protected waters a light to moderate chop.

The average wind speed on SGI as of 1:30 is NNE3mph  Don't make your plans around them :o But if ya have ta stay inshore, try around the Oyster bars dureing the heat of the day 8)

I have weatherbug installed at work and home http://www.weatherbug.com/aws/index.asp . The popup's can be irritating at times, but it is well worth it :D You can check the winds, presure, rain, and in some cases, get a live camera veiw of the area within 200 miles of you 8)

Is the station actually on SGI? The last time I checked the closest one was carrabelle HS.

Yep it's on SGI, the sites go up and down, but the SGI one is up most of the time. The one in Carrabelle is pretty usless for fishin winds, due ta being inshore to far! The one on the island is "as a rule" much more accurate than the NOAA sites for winds.

The beach cam is located at finnie's resturant right on the gulf. I don't if the wind data is collected from there or not?

Yes it is. I have never walked up there to see if they have the wind gauge though. That data could be collected from the weather station on the causeway between the two bridges.

Hey Wevens,
