This area is for general discussions about fishing, rigging, baits, etc.

Seeing hard bottom on the bottom machine?

Post by dogonenuts »

Outside of seeing actual rock formations on the bottom, how do you tell you are looking at hard bottom vs. sand on a black and white machine?

Thanks for the answers.

Do you have the owners manual for your machine? There is usually a good explaination and illustrations in the manual. If you don't have the manual, most manufacturers have their manuals available on line.
What was I supposed to do today?

A hard bottom returns a stronger signal than a soft bottom does..Consequently, a thin whiteline would indicate a softer bottom..A thicker whiteline would indicate a harder bottom.. At least this is what my Garmin does..If you cross a hump or rise on the bottom with a wide whiteline it may indicate the presence of a rock or some kind of obstruction on the bottom..

From the Garmin manual, but check your manual there should be something explaining how it looks.

Another easy way to see what rocks look like on your bottom machine would be to go down the Aucillia river and watch your bottom finder....... :-D :-D :-D
