Any Tournaments Planned
Are you all planning any Kayak Fishing Tournaments in the Big Bend Area.? Let me know if you do.
We already know we can beat the boats, but who's the best at kayaking? But seriously, if you guys have a club, you can organize a tournament that benefits a local charity and local and national companies will donate goods and services. You attract more kayak fishermen to the sport, and its surprising how much you learn about your sport from others.
Nice points all around.jsuber wrote:We already know we can beat the boats, but who's the best at kayaking? I may be a stick in the mud but the tournament deal just doesn't do much for me. I know when I'm fishing with friends there's always a tally in our heads keeping track of who's caught what. That's inevitable and mostly fun. I find it a lot more fun, to paraphrase one of jsuber's points, to learn from others and pass it on. A classic example is when somebody on the boat is catching a lot more fish than anybody else and they're using the same equipment. To figure out what they're doing, make it work, and understand why it works, is just plain fun.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm with Lit. Dick and I are planing a trip this Sunday down at Spring Creek. Please join us. Hopefully this year I can return to fishing like I did in 2004. Dick and I are looking for people who enjoy this type of fishing, I will post a time, as soon as I talk to Dick.

Lit, I still have a fly combo that you may borrow. My fly fishing is on hold for a while.

I can appreciate the brotherhood that exist's between folks who use a particular method or equipment type. It's a good thing. We (non Kayakr's) appreciate the information and reports that come from this group. That being said.... please don't miss interpret the word "tournament". Any similarity between a NFGFC tournament and some "Pro" series will be in name only!!
Lit spoke the following:
We would certainly welcome anyone who would like to fish from any type of craft... inner tubes, water wings, etc.

Lit spoke the following:
And in doing so... has defined, very well, a NFGFC tournament. We have them because of all the reasons that Littoral mentioned. If it were about serious competition....it would be in direct violation of the Club Rules. (see item #26 http://www.nfgfc.org/docs/tournamentrules.htm )I may be a stick in the mud but the tournament deal just doesn't do much for me. "Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
Heck, they managed ta convince me to join the NFGFC this year and I absolutely dislike Tournies
But the more I've learned about the NFGFC, the more I've realized that they are more about comarady and good natured competition than what you would generally categorize a fishing tourny club

I'm encouraged about participating in an NFCG event -maybe.
Thanks for the invite & offer on fly gear. I have to be at my daughters soccer game. And as to fly gear -as of 1:40 PM my new rig just left Illiniois, anticipated arrival date is 1-24. I'll be in the hunt soon.
I assume that's Apalach (Dick) -I hope you're successful in getting him on the water.Billy Miller wrote:I'm with Lit. Dick and I are planing a trip this Sunday down at Spring Creek. Please join us. I asked because i know of Kayak Fishing Tournaments in
New England: NEKF Mass Bay Striper Shootout Aug. 4th-5th 2006

New York City: The Third Annual Jamaica Bay Kayak Fishing Tournament will be held on Sunday, May 7th, 2005
Virginia Beach, VA: Second Annual Slam Tournament Sept 30, 2006
http://www.tkaa.org
Jacksonville, FL: 3rd Annual Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Tournament
http://www.jaxkayakfishing.com/events.html
Tampa hasn't announced theirs yet, and there will a few in Louisian and Texas.
I was hoping there would be one there in Tallahassee area since thats where my family lives.
Let us know if ya'll form one. We donated money to Katrina Victims last year and we'll pick another charity this time. Sponsor will help you by donating prizes, and everyone gets to sit around and talk about the one that got away. Like I said its a good way to increase the visibility of Kayak fishing, which really helps all of you kayak fishermen. If there was no interest in Kayak fishing then all of these companies popping up would be making canoes or perots.
