Aucilla 2-9

Post by Fish Masterson »

After a scheduling mix up by a numb skull contractor, I realized that it wouldn't be possible for me to work today, so I told my helper to hightail it to the house and we would see what we could do. The tides seemed about right but that north wind had me a little concerned, but what the hay, its either go or watch the Guiding Light, so off we go. Got to the ramp about 11ish and saw that there would be enough water to launch. Packed on a few extra layers of clothing and off we went. I recently replaced all my electronics, so I didn't have any of the hazards marked as of yet, so I marked a few rocks, with my prop that is.
We made it out and down to a secret creek that no one has ever been in before. I could tell because there were no tire tracks or foot prints anywhere in there. About half a mile in, we saw a large disturbance on the water, and then water was blowing up all around that area. As we got closer, we realized that it was a large porpoise flailing about. I am not sure what he was doing because I couldn't see any other fish he might be chasing, but it looked like he was trying to beach himself onto a rather large rock. We finally got to close and the excitement was over after he sped by us out of the creek. We fished all the way up this creek as far as we could go without a bite. The wind was blowing rather briskly I might add. As luck would have it, we found another virgin creek, and started fishing up it. After a little ways, I finally had a bite. Fish on, my partner grabs the net, and our first fish of the day is in the cooler. We fished on up, then down, then all around the area with only one more pup brought to the boat :smt010 .
After all of this excitement, I was ready to head toward the hill, but I could tell my partner hadn't had enough just yet, so we headed back to the mouth of Sulfur creek, and fished all the way back through West Pass, without another bite. Oh well, I guess it beat the watching soap operas all day.
Final tally: 1 24in red
2 limits of trout :-D

I'm wondering what flipper was doing up in there ? Makes me wonder if the food chain offshore is slim ? I've never seen one in that close, he had to be hungry ! I guess he could have hung out with the redfish too long and thought he was one, there's always a retard in the group ! :-D

Gee whiz...numb skull. I'm speechless. Last time I heard that phrase I was 15, and my Drivers Ed coach was upset with me about something.

I wasn't gonna tell who the numb skull was, but since you stepped up and admitted it :smt005 . One part of the story I left out was one heck of a fat gator slid off the bank not to far from where we saw flipper. I bet it would be quite a ruckus if that gator were to get his maw around flippers arse. I wonder who would win that tussle :o .
Well, I been workin on my truck all night and I gotta get some shuteye so I can go help a numb skull work on his barn tommorow since yall gone and cancelled the tourney. I know some fisherperson(Mj Signs) is liable to go out tommorow, so yall be safe.

FM you are right..... My batteries are charged and I have the foul weather gear ready to go. Nothing like having the whole Gulf to yourself!! You gotta really love it being out there in that kind of weather    Just can't take a whole lot of pictures because it's either raining too hard or the boat is rocking too much to hold the camera steady :-D

Your trip sounds awesome... 2 limits... lucky the man wasn't waiting for you at the ramp  I've seen them bottle noses swimming like torpedo's in less than 2' of water. When they are shallow they are allot more skiddish around boats. I'll bet he'd easily out maneuver that gator, even in the skinny waters.
