drifter

Post by BlueDrifter »

As my screen name suggests I have an Ocean Kayak Drifter (blue). I cannot say how fast it is but since October I have paddled it many miles. It doesn't need a rudder but some might want one. It is stable but if you lean too far water will come over the sides (very low profile good in the wind) Its not in danger of tipping just a wet bottom which you will have In any sit on top. I have my cockpit scupper holes plugged with removable stoppers (Home Depot).

This is fairly wide boat and there ate a few times that unless you like clutter and broken rods hooks in feet , line hung up on the bow lift handle and hatch hold down is rod holders (at least two) . I keep one rod rigged for bait the other for lures. Made mine from pvc and id mounted on the centerline just behind me.
You will also need the smallest of tackle boxes maybe 12X6. I have a plastic open faced model that holds 4 stacked average sized plastic boxes. I have found that I use only one of the boxes. The unit too large for my comfort.

I also carry a small ice chest in the tank well that I can only use if I get out of the boat. I will be buying a "hydration unit that cyclist and hikers use. Will still carry the chest though.

These types of problems will have to be overcome in any Kayak the drifter was 560 on sale .
