Keaton-it begins.

Post by DixieReb »

Made it to Keaton today with Dad, started about 8:30 outside pole line. Greeted with 2-3 ft. rollers, guess NOAA was wrong again. Anyway, first 2 fish in 6 ft. water were white trout, nice fat ones and in the box they went. Drifted closer in and got 4 nice speckled trout, one over 20''. Made another drift with wind shifting to northeast and only got 1 more keeper. It was slow the rest of the day, made it over to ward Doghead and got a nice flounder but no trout. Finished the long day over toward the pole line again in 5 ft. and got another keeper, several shorts. Then nothing  Seems like when we tried to move back on a drift, the drift would change and the bite stopped. Water was stained everywhere, temp started out about 65 deg. and warmed to 67.5 by 2 pm. Off the water at 3 pm, 6 specks, 2 white trout and 1 flounder. Not a bad first trip and boat ran great. Felt good to be on the water again!! :smt004

Chalk, the water at doghead was clearer than at keaton but still had sediment and visibility poor. I guess the wind stirred the bottom up?
