Fishing the St Joe Bay this time of year is not as exciting or productive as others ,but you can catch fish. With March here I can still find schools of Redfish although small they are still in the slot. The Trout are on the move as this week we have found small schools of 5 to 10 fish along the edges of what will be grass soon. The sheepshead are plenty. You will find the sheepshead in and on the grass , but if you go sand bottom 5’ to 8’ feet you will catch all you want. The flounder are moving in on a fair scale . You can also pick them up when the sheepshead bite slows on the deeper sand bottoms. The best bait this week has been a white and red grub with a long tail and fiddlers fish finder rigged.
With March here its time to have all your ducks in a row. The fishing is really heating up. Go through all that gear and the boat ,make sure you are ready so when the time comes you just head out. Don’t forget the trailer ! I have had two blowouts this winter , both out of town ,both times I had to buy new spares . I hate changing a tire on the side of the road. Mudducker I wanted to tell you I have found better fish on the east side and you can launch right off the highway. If they are really wanting good fish and not just out for a day of paddle then it maybe your best bet. Launch at oakgrove witch is the last house on the highway heading east out of town. Fish out beyond the first sand bar where the water is 5 feet or so and go east. If you want I will donate some time with your troop . I dont know how old these guys are or their experience but if you want a chase boat along let me know. And If I have a charter your welcome to use my 14' skiff. It has a 35hp manual or elec start and is in good shape . Bare bones skiff with tiller handle.MudDucker wrote:Gary,

I'll know more tonight at the meeting about who is coming. I think I'll have boys from 12 y/o on up. I think most would like to catch fish. With youngins, the numbers seem to be more important than the size, although I am hoping they catch enough to eat for supper. I was planning on loading one of my riverhawks on the canoe trailer and take my 4hp to keep up with them. If you don't have anything better to do and want to join us, we sure would welcome it!
BTW, I am gonna rig them a little tackle to take in each canoe. What would you recommend I put in the bag?
