SC fishin

Post by tin can »

My son and I launched his boat on Santee-Cooper's Lake Moultrie at daylight yesterday. The forecast was for northwest winds at 5 mph. The weather man got the northwest right, northwest at 15 to 20. We launched on the south side of the lake. Back on the trailer within 30 minutes. Drove to The Cooper River. Neither of us have any experience on The Cooper River. Rode around and looked for a while. Finally pulled up on a cut off of the river that went into one of the old rice fields. 3 bass, from 2 to 4 pounds. Went exploring some more. Then the motor blew a power pack. 1.5 hour idle back to the landing. Back on the trailer at 1.

But, it was good quality time with my son.

Tin-Can......I used to live in Charleston, SC while I was in the Air Force. My son,Dixie Reb, and I spent many a day on Lake Moultrie....mainly striper fishing. It was the first lake in the country to have stripers...and they sure were there when we lived there.
Been to those rice fields off the Cooper River too many a time. Some very good bass fishing there..
Lake Moultrie is a world class speckled perch lake too. The national record for both the black crappie and the white crappie comes from there....both over 5lbs. each.
Your story brought back some great memories. :)

Were you all using that 1978 115hp evinrude you showed me?
It uses a different powerpack than mine.

TC....those rice fields off the Cooper River were the most productive for bass when I was there.. Never did do much bassin in Lake Moultrie...although there are some gollywhoppers in it. It was too big for me(the lake)....except for those stripers... it was 8 miles across...and I fished at night. Lake record was 85 lbs when I lived there. :D

Yes, we're using the 115. And, it does, indeed, use the same power packs.

Fished lake Moultrie one time about 3 years ago for catfish. They got some big'ns. Check out my pictures on my web site for some examples.
