Have this week off, and a beautiful week it is. Went to Lanark today after all the work on my boat, needed to field test it and burn a little gas the right way. Slid the boat in about 7:30, temp. about 55, water temp 61, light wind. Headed SE from Dog Island, seas 1', very nice in some fog.
Although the seas were calm, the tide was weak in the morning, but that was when I was going to fish, because the wind was forecast to come up in the afternoon (and boy, it did!). Trolled for about 2 hours, nary a bite. Drifted 5 different holes, no grouper, some trigger bites, very slow indeed. Anchored once, no grouper, triggers. Only saw one other boat, burned 15.5 gallons of gas (thats half a tank) and went about 60 miles.
Saw two beautiful bald eagles perched on the breakwater at Lanark Basin as I came in at 12:30. Nice sight. By that time, the wind was whipping pretty good out of the SW.
Nice day, this grouper fishing has me stumped right now. But, I expect by April and May I will feel better.
Luck,
EJ
