3-04-06 Carrabelle

Post by Sea Fox »

We got to Carrabelle late Friday, so it took alittle time Sat. morning to get ready. But by 9AM we were looking for pins and finnaly got 3 dozen or so. It was rough but forcast to lay down so south we went in 61 degree water. The water color was nice and when we arrived at the Yamaha a diver threw what appeard to be a nice hog in his boat. They had no flags up and I felt bad about being that close (150 yds) but didnt see any flags or reactions from the other boats members. Back to fishing, we made 4 or 5 drifts over some good bottom and got 3or 4 grouper on each pass with only 2 keepers. Also got 3 nice snapper that was released. I thought that we would get in the AJs but didnt see any all day. after lunch we moved to some swiss cheese and we started catching keepers to 30". We were drifting with the drift anchor at a good speed and every time we crossed one area we caught fish. Anchored up and had a great day. When they slacked up, a slight adjustment to the anchor and we would get more bites. By side cleating your rode you can move left or right and it payed off for us. Froze bait worked as well as live. 14 keepers and 15 to 20 shorts. Cant wait to go back. SF. 8)

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR ON YOUR DEPTH FINDER TO FIND THE SWISS CHEESE.

Well the areas we fished ranged from 58 to 75'. It really dont look like much on the sonar. But if you zoom in the relief is only 1 to 3'. If there is any wave action its hard to see at all. 8)
