Keaton Offshore 2 Feb

Post by Kai Lover »

Nice day on the water at 70 degrees and sunny. Started in 50' and worked our way out to 70'. Water temp ranged from 58 to 62 on the surface. Tail end of the outbound tide produced a few fish before noon up and down on LYs...mainly shorts. Headed out to deeper water for the incoming tide trolling and checking out the bottom with the new Furuno. Found some ledges and bait in 65' and put a few 28-29" gags in the box plus a few bonitos.

Bite was average, but it sure was nice to be on the water in Feb. Ended the day with 7 nice keepers. Two of my friends on two different boats had a little better results with 10 and 11 keepers respectfully. They had the hot bait--Jeff Gordon colored stretch. We caught ours on green tiger stripe and 100lb power pro.

101 miles on GPS and 32 gallons at the pump for the 4 stroke. New Furuno was awesome--like turning on the light in a dark room. I could not believe that I could see my sinker going to the bottom. I hit the target on the mounting because she read bottom all day in all conditions even running 45 MPHs. No mullet you can't have the # to this 10' rock/ledge. Tom, try to call via radio, but we must have been too far from you. :D
