MIRROR LURES
I thought maybe someone could help me out. I am trying to replace the back hooks on some of my mirror lures. The back hook screws in and does not have the split ring. I was thinking of cutting the hook off the back and adding a split ring. Any ideas
JUST SHUT UP AND FISH!
Bend the eye open, slip the old treble hook off, slip the new treble hook on, squeeze the eye shut. It doesn't have to be opened very much to change the hooks.
I like to use a pair of dikes for this by putting the cutting surfaces right on the gap and squeezing. Then any kind of pliers can be used to squeeze it shut again.
Haven't tried it on a MirrOLure, but some time ago I tried Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gap (EWG) treble hooks on some crankbaits. What I found, compared to round bend trebles, was that it's harder to hook a fish on the EWGs, but once he's on there you're gonna' need pliers to get him off.

I have a pair of split ring pliers that I almost never use because I don't like the design. They're the ones that look like a pair of needlenose pliers with one tip bent over. They work okay with larger split rings, but the smaller the split ring, the more trouble it is with these pliers.
Some day I'll get different ones.

A devil Horse is made the same way, I do what Charles said and have had no problems
Them ring pliers are a must for the bigguns, but I still use my fingernail for the smaller ones
